As a place of life, love and hope, the Taryn Community Resource Center has continually worked to connect our friends in North America to our friends in Haiti. We have recognized that in spite of our cultural differences and the differences in our life circumstances, we have so many more important things that connect us. We have our underlying values, moral standards and dreams in common. But, what truly brings us together is our common faith in the living God who came to live among us so that we might come to know Him. His Son, Jesus Christ died on the cross in order that our sins can be forgiven and on the third day He was resurrected and gives us assurance of everlasting life.
In this time of reflection and preparation for the celebration of Easter this year, we are inviting our North American friends and our Haitian friends to come together in a time of devotion. We hope that this devotional together will help connect us but more importantly, we hope that it will help connect each of us with God. Let us come to prayer with a Listening Prayer.
Let us come to prayer Listening for God. Let us come to God, together expecting to hear from Him. God want us to connect with each other and to connect in a meaningful way with Him. He wants to have a personal relationship with us and if we ask Him expectantly, He will respond. This devotional is intended to help each of us hear from God.
To do this study, you will need: 1) 30-45 minutes of uninterrupted time with God and 2) A quiet place where you can sit without distractions for 30minutes or so, and 3) a prayer journal. While it can be challenging to find 30-45 minutes in your day, you will find it impossible to really focus on God if you feel rushed. It will be important to always begin with scripture. We will always print the appropriate passages so that those without Bibles will be able to participate. After reading the days passage, take time to focus on the the application section. Each day pray that the Lord will speak in a way that you will understand and then take time to listen. God has a lot to say to us. Be willing to listen to Him. In addition to writing down your questions to God, make sure you write down everything you feel the Lord is saying in your prayer journal. After you feel you have written everything down, it is important to consider this series of tests to make sure what you heard is from the Lord: 1. Does it Glorify Christ? 2. Is it consistent with scripture? 3. Do other mature Christians confirm it? 4. Does it produce good fruit? 5. Does God cause it to actually happen?
We hope that you will share some of your journal entries with others in the group so that we will be truly experiencing this devotional together.
